NEW BCA REQUIREMENTS PENDING
On the 1st May this year the new Building Code of Australia (BCA) Section J6 requirements come into force. The major changes in the BCA include maximum lighting wattage/m2 and Energy Performance Standards. This could impact on existing projects under construction and future projects in planning.
The new requirements form part of the governments strategy to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It dictates the design requirements and maximum wattage allowance based on square meter of the floor area and depends on the building type and usage. It does not detail the type of lighting or methods of installation and this is up to the consultant or electrician to determine.

We have been very busy lately working in conjunction with some of the industry's best electrical contractors on the BER projects around Melbourne. Our involvement consisted in the design and programming of the automations system for several schools for the template jobs as part of the BER.
