COMMERCIAL

Over fifty percent of our recent work has been in the commercial field. Projects including commercial office buildings, community centres, schools and hotels have been completed in recent months.

One common theme with most of the recent projects completed is the move toward energy efficiency. New lighting technology and energy efficient technologies are common. Building automation is also common and adds to the buildings efficiency.

Along with the lighting technologies comes the requirements to control it. DALI and DSI dimming is very common in all new buildings. When used in conjunction with an automation system the end result can benefit the end user and the environment. Lighting sensors can control the lights to turn on and off when required, dim the lights and maintain a level suitable for the activity in the building.

AUTOMATING THE BER

We have been very busy lately working in conjunction with some of the industry's best electrical contractors on the BER projects around Melbourne. Our involvement consisted in the design and programming of the automations system for several schools for the template jobs as part of the BER.

Automation is our passion and part of our design philosophy is to make it as simple as possible. Why make things more complicated than they need to be, after all it's called automation for a reason.

Our design using Clipsal CBus controlled the lighting, power and ventilation in the building. Lighting level sensors control lighting levels in the building as well as turning lights on and off when not required. Power system for hot water, boiling water and gas heating is controlled when the building is occupied therefore reducing energy consumption.

Ventilation is controlled with ceiling fans, motorised louvered windows and roof vents. The system is interfaced with the HVAC control system that regulates the temperature in the building.

The entire building is controlled using a CTouch MK2 screen.

INDUSTRIAL

At SL Electrical we have a specialist team of electricians working in the industrial field. We work in many industrial sectors including, petro-chemical, quarrying, resources, re-mediation and water treatment. Over recent times we have been working hard developing automation system for sand and rock processing plants across Victoria. We have also been working with re-mediation companies to develop plants for the reclamation of petroleum products from redundant sites such as decommissioned service stations and fuel depots.

Our client list includes some of the largest companies in Australia including Hanson, Boral, BP Australia, Donmix, Local Mix, Barrow Group, Goodman Fielder and many others.

Automation systems including PLC and SCADA are very common and cost effective. SCADA provides a communication link with graphic display that enables plant operators to see and control plant operations.

SL Electrical also provide electrical breakdown services for the industrial sector. Our team of electrical service people are skilled in motor control, PLC fault finding and general plant maintenance.

We also have a team of electricians who are skilled in Hazardous Area installation and service. We are BP accredited and AIP Approved.

DOMESTIC

BEACH ROAD

In 2005 we were asked to complete a project for a client for a property located on Beach Rd. Straight away we suggested to incorporate Clipsal CBus. We designed a system to provided functionality required in a modern four level home while keeping the operation as simple as possible. We believe that the idea behind every automation system is to make it user friendly.

The project was a challenge for our team that we embraced. The end result is a remarkable property with the best views in Melbourne.

RIVER ST RICHMOND

Recently completed apartments in River St Richmond are now being enjoyed by their owners. Overlooking the Upper Yarra River these remarkable apartments have transformed the area and this is rapidly becoming a popular residential area. Built on a former tannery, the complex consists of thirty six town house style homes built over three levels

CLIPSAL CBus HOME AUTOMATION

Without doubt the Clipsal CBus system is the leader in home automation. Since it's conception over twenty years ago there have been many other products released but none that compare to the product range and functionality of Clipsal CBus.

I was asked by a client the other day if it was worth installing Clipsal CBus in a new home. My answer is, yes, absolutely. For anyone considering a new home, the electrical and communication services should be the first thing you should consider. With so many new technologies on the market, wiring a home the 'old way' is no longer practical.

My discussion with the client continued and he said he was told by another 'sparky' that CBus is just another fancy way of turning lights on and off. A very short sighted comment from someone scared of new technologies. Sure it can turn you lights on and off, and also your TV, DVD, sound system, you can control and monitor your security, heating and cooling, and all this can be done anywhere on you iPhone or PDA

Don't be fooled into believing other products on the market are the same. Several recent projects that we have been involved in have chosen a third party 'automation specialist' to do the home automation. We have provided the installation only. On two occasions the product did not meet the clients expectations and the cost exceeded their budget.

Clipsal CBus is an Australian developed product that is distributed world wide. Until recently Clipsal was an Australian owned company with there head office located in Adelaide. Since being acquired by Schneider Electric, the Clipsal Brand is now part of one of the largest electrical products companies in the world.
